- Thiamethoxam is absorbed quickly by plants and transported to all of its parts, including pollen, where it acts to deter insect feeding.
- It s a granular soluble insecticide of Neonicotinoid group.
- An insect can absorb it in its stomach after feeding, or through direct contact, including through its tracheal system.
- It can be used in both humid tropics and temperate climates.
- Being a systemic insecticide should be applied at recommended dose at initial stage of infestation.
- It is advisable to alternate with other groups of insecticides to avoid resistance problems in the long run.
Description
Mode of Action: Systemic and contact action.
- A broad spectrum systemic insecticide having stomach & contact action.
- It acts on a specific protein in the brain of pest insects (the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor), inhibiting their feeding reflex.
- During food intake, healthy aphids stay nearly motionless on the leaf. After uptake of Thiamethoxam, the sucking insect stops feeding and even if death is delayed for 24 hours, the effects are comparable to knock-down compounds, since the feeding stop is irreversible. Affected sucking insects do not penetrate the plant tissue again.
